Disney Dining Walk-Up List: How It Works
How to join Disney World's mobile dining walk-up list, when to check, why proximity matters, and how to build a same-day backup plan.
Disney’s Mobile Dine Walk-Up Availability lets you request same-day seating at select table-service restaurants through My Disney Experience. You usually need to be near the restaurant, availability is limited, and joining the list is not the same as holding an advance reservation.
Use it as a flexible backup. Do not build a birthday, show connection, or cross-property itinerary around the assumption that a walk-up table will appear.

How to join
Disney currently provides two common paths in the app:
- Open the map, filter or browse dining, select a participating restaurant, and choose the option to join the walk-up list; or
- Search for dining availability for the current date and use a walk-up option when shown.
The app will ask for the party size and contact details. If space is offered, follow the notification instructions and arrive within the stated time. Exact labels and steps can change with app updates.
Why location matters
Disney says guests generally need to be near the restaurant to join. That makes the walk-up list useful after you have entered a park or arrived at a resort—not from a hotel room across Walt Disney World.
Choose a cluster of acceptable restaurants in one area. Walking from the front of EPCOT to a remote World Showcase pavilion just to check one list can consume the advantage. A nearby table-service backup plus a nearby quick-service backup is more resilient.
When to check
There is no universal release time or guaranteed inventory. Check near the beginning of the meal period and whenever the app suggests walk-up availability, but do not repeatedly refresh at the expense of the park day. Party size, operating hours, and current demand all affect what appears.
Smaller parties may be easier to seat, but never enter an inaccurate party size. Include every guest, regardless of age.
Walk-up list versus advance reservation
| Mobile walk-up list | Advance dining reservation |
|---|---|
| Same-day request | Bookable up to 60 days ahead in most cases |
| Usually requires nearby location | Can be made before the trip |
| Limited, unpredictable availability | Confirmed time when successfully booked |
| Useful for flexible meals | Better for fixed events and must-do experiences |
Joining a walk-up list does not provide park admission. For an in-park restaurant, every guest age three and older still needs valid admission, and some ticket types may require a park reservation.
Build a two-step backup
Before joining, identify:
- Backup A: another acceptable table-service restaurant in the same area.
- Backup B: a quick-service restaurant that supports the park route.
If the app quotes a wait that conflicts with a Lightning Lane return, show, or transportation deadline, choose the backup. A restaurant is not a successful walk-up if it causes the party to miss the day’s true priority.
When mobile order is better
Use Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering when the real need is a predictable meal with minimal decision time. Participating quick-service locations let you choose an arrival window, place and pay for the order, then tell the app when you have arrived. Pickup availability and menus change by location.
